Seed Germination Information
How to Successfully Germinate Your Cannabis Seeds
Congratulations on purchasing high-quality cannabis seeds from CannaJoyMN! Now that you have your seeds, the next crucial step is to germinate them properly to ensure healthy growth. Using the paper towel method is a tried-and-true approach for cannabis seed germination. Follow these seven easy steps to get your seeds sprouting in no time.
Gather Your Supplies
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need:
- Cannabis seeds
- Paper towels (preferably unbleached)
- A sandwich bag (plastic or reusable)
Prepare the Paper Towel
Moisten a paper towel with tap water. It should be damp but not soaking wet. Gently place your cannabis seeds on the damp paper towel, spacing them out to ensure they do not touch each other.
Cover the Seeds
Fold the damp paper towel in half and cover the seeds. This creates a humid environment that encourages germination. Make sure the paper towels are evenly damp; if they start to dry out, lightly mist them with water.
Create a Humid Environment
Place the paper towels with the seeds into a sandwich bag and squeeze out the air, this helps with good contact to hydrate the seed. Seal the bag, this helps maintain the necessary humidity and ensures good contact with the seed and the towel.
Find the Perfect Spot
Find a warm (above 70°F or 21°C), dark place to store your sandwich bag with the seeds. I use my sock drawer because it’s dark, a decent temp, and I put socks on every day so I don’t forget about it. A cupboard, shirt drawer, or a spot on top of a fridge can work well. Check the seeds daily to ensure the paper towels remain damp.
Monitor and Wait
Germination usually occurs within 1 to 3 days, but it can take up to 7-10 days. Be patient and keep monitoring the seeds daily. Once you see a tiny white root (taproot) emerging from the seed, it's time for the next step.
Transplant the Germinated Seeds
Once your seeds have germinated, it's time to transplant them into your growing medium. Handle the seeds very carefully, using tweezers if necessary. Plant each seed with the taproot facing down, about 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) deep in a pre-watered growing medium. Ensure the soil is moist but not waterlogged. If the taproot breaks, the seed will not grow, so be gentle.
